Tamu Tamu Refreshments in Animal Kingdom was originally designed as a quick counter service type spot in this "African" area of Animal Kingdom. Now that the larger "Harambe Market" is just around the corner, it seems Tamu Tamu has been turned into a dessert and Dole Whip® stand. As such, it's one of the most elaborate looking quick snack stands out there. Occupying prime real estate on the corner of Dawa Street and Mahindi Avenue (yes, I just made that up) gives the location a tremendous amount of foot traffic... and so it ... ( read more ... )

The Garden Grill Restaurant is located on the upper level of The Land pavilion in Future World. The "upper" level in this case, is actually the level that you enter the Land pavilion on… you would have to go down one floor to find the cue for Soarin' and the "Living with the Land" boat ride. The Garden Grill did have a lunch period, and then it didn't, and now it does again! I for one, couldn't be happier about that because lunch seems to strike a nice balance cost and experience. About the only thing different between ... ( read more ... )

The Smiling Crocodile is one of the small "quick snack" kiosks that you'll find when walking around Animal Kingdom. There's quite a few of them actually, and I for one… wish they were a bit more identifiable. It's a cool idea… having what amounts to little food and wine type booths up year-round, for an Animal Kingdom style food stroll. The kiosk I stopped by yesterday (The Smiling Crocodile) just changed up it's menu about a week ago, and I wanted to try out a couple of the new items. On the menu now, are three ... One of these days I'm going to get back around to trying some seafood dishes at Columbia Harbor House! Today though, we're taking a look at the Broccoli Peppercorn Salad. Why? Because maybe everyone in your group doesn't want fast food seafood... all at the same time. Answering the question… so what else do they have at Columbia Harbor House? Well, they have a Broccoli Peppercorn Salad, and you know what? It's not bad. It's easily on-par with any fast food style designer salad we've found outside the gates. Is it up there ... Celebration at the Top - Savor, Sip and Sparkle is a new event that takes place on Sunday Evenings only in the private Sonoma and Napa Rooms of the California Grill. It's not clear just how many of these events are going to take place. There are six more Sundays on the schedule for now… the event may be extended, or it may not, it's hard to tell at this point. This is for all intent and purpose, a firework watching party... but with some really good food and beverage offerings being supplied by the California Grill ... ( read more ... )

Jakes Beer Dinner is a great little event that takes place a couple times a year at Jake's American Bar, which is in the Loews Royal Pacific Resort. The popular restaurant has a private event space called the "Clipper Room" which can seat (by my best guess) between 60 and 80 guests. The format is solid... an invited brewery presents four or five beers and the chef's at Jake's create dishes that pair with, compliment, and/or highlight the charter of the beer. Ladies, if you've tried getting your guys to vertical wine pairings ... ( read more ... )

The Geyser Point Bar and Grill is a new "lounge" at Disney's Wilderness Lodge Resort… and it's also a counter service location for breakfast, lunch and dinner… at least until Roaring Forks opens after it's refurbishment. As far as the lounge area goes, it's a great addition to the lounge portfolio at Disney resorts. This is an open-air (but fully covered) space that sits right on the water's edge. The design of the space fits in beautifully with the Wilderness Lodge and appropriately feels more modern-Pacific ... ( read more ... )

Tiffins is one of the more recent additions to the Disney "signature" restaurant group which is now 27 dining periods strong (give or take). The locations should offer something extra unique, either in terms of service, location, and/or the culinary arts (and higher prices to be sure). Each of the four Disney parks has (at least) one "signature" restaurant, and Tiffins is the location of choice at Animal Kingdom. Should Tiffins be in the signature dining group? I think so. Based solely on the culinary... and not the dining ... ( read more ... )

When the Wave first opened at the Contemporary Resort, I had a couple of really good experiences there. Sadly, those experiences seem to be getting more mundane as time passes. A recent visit for try one of the new menu items (a Cioppino) only seemed to solidify that feeling. On my latest visit, there just seemed to be a layer of unenthusiasm in the food, service and environment… that on it's own would lead to a luke warm, so-so kind of review. But when you figure in the prices being charged, (and therefore my ... ( read more ... )

I have often said that Epcot's Sunshine Seasons counter service location is one of the best "food court" style restaurants in any of the four Disney/Orlando theme parks. Easily on the short list of top three quick service locations that you should try while you're here. It occurred to me the other day though… that while I praise the location for its options, I almost always gravitate to the "grill shop" station and either the Salmon or Pork entrees. I honestly don't think I have ever tried anything from the "Asian ... ( read more ... )
