Easter Eggs at the Contemporary Resort
A Quick Look at the Annual Easter Egg Display in the Contemporary Resort.

The annual
Easter Egg Display over at the Grand Floridian is the original, top tier location when it comes to artsy confectionary egg displays – but other resorts get in on the action sometimes too. Information about which resorts have something set up can be a little hit and miss from year to year... and even if a resort set up a display last year, it doesn't necessarily mean they will next year. Generally speaking, resorts that have a large number of catering cast members (aka "business travel destinations with convention hall spaces") are the most likely to display eggs.
We here at
Mealtrip don't really get around to see all of the displays each year. It's a fun day's outing and we usually eat somewhere close to the egg display that we're looking at, which is always fun. The creative egg displays are really amazing — but you know, here at Mealtrip – we like experiencing everything just like normal guests would... and not like one of those content hungry bloggers. I think you loose something in the rush of being the first get everything – a missed appreciation for what these displays are. They're not over the top "must sees" each year... it's just a little happy happenstance where the cast members get to share some Easter magic with guests passing by.
Rather than being a yearly account of exactly who's designed what egg and where they're all located – our "
Why We Love This Place" article for the Contemporary Resort's Easter Egg Display is more about what you might typically find there on any given year, and how the whole thing is set up. The location and size of the display generally doesn't change much from year to year.
We consider our "Easter Eggs at Disney Resorts" page to be a "Master Article" page which includes a big photo gallery of all the various Easter Eggs we've seen over multiple years – plus links to some of the other resort displays. (Editor's Note : The page I'm referencing here, isn't active yet. I'm working on it.)
When the Contemporary Resort first started displaying Easter Eggs, the display had been on the fourth floor (that's the floor where dining locations like
Chef Mickey's and the
Contempo Café are located). But now that the pre-monorail security checkpoint is set up on that fourth floor – free space is a little hard to come by. More recently, (and for a couple of years now) – the display has been located on the first floor – right next to
Steakhouse 71.

The Easter Egg display at the Contemporary Resort fills in the space that it's been given very well.
We think it's a pretty good bet that the display will remain here going forward... so if you happen to be in or around the
Contemporary Resort about a month before Easter – it might be worth a stop-by to see if the display is there.
What you won't find around here — is a dedicated confectionary kiosk selling pre-wrapped Easter goodies — and frankly, I hope it stays that way. Everything shouldn't be a sales opportunity. If you want some of those goodies though... you can get them over at the
Grand Floridian's Easter Egg Display. Being the original location and generally having the largest display each year, they've gotten to the point where they're setting up a kiosk in the lobby to sell candy eggs, pastel pastries, macaroons, and other treats for gifting or eating.
Occasionally, you'll find some descriptive backstory on the various displays – but it's not always a given. We really like reading and remembering all the details – it's how you get Disney-smart without wasting money on guide books. My gut feeling is – it probably takes four or five different departments working together to print up a poster like this behind the scenes – which is why you won't find one each year. But... some of this information applies to any of the displays you might find.

Sometimes there's a poster or information board somewhere near the Easter Egg displays – sometimes there's not. It says that bakery cast members used over 200 pounds of dark, white, and milk chooclate – along with rolled fondant, modeling chocolate, cocoa butter, gum paste, and sugar to make the various decorated eggs.
Let's Take a Closer Look At Some Eggs!
On the far left we found some really cute, classic Disney eggs including this Minnie Mouse egg... complete with a bunny hopping into the egg head-first.

This Minnie Mouse egg features a bunny hopping into the top, head-first! (2024)
We really appreciated all the small, subtle details on the eggs each year. Looking closely at the base of the Minnie Mouse egg – you'll not only find a tiny little Easter chick and some sprinkle cookies, but a tiny hidden Mickey as well. That's not the only one though... check out that purple egg on the left – there's a red hidden Mickey on that egg too!

A couple of the 10 hidden Mickey's are near the Minnie egg. The tiny, baby, duck has one, and the egg on the left also features a red hidden Mickey.
Oh my goodness, that bunny on top of that egg is impossibly cute! We really liked how many of the eggs that are part of the Contemporary's display on this particular year stay close to a traditional egg form. The larger display at the Grand Floridian features some "eggs" that are very loosely egg shaped.

This pastel blue egg with tiny little white flowers and that bunny on top is quintessential Easter Egg magic!
This Honey Bee egg might have been part of a larger work-in-progess – but I thought is was really neat looking. It's smaller than the other eggs, by about half – but the detail of the bees and the concept are really great.

This smaller Honey Pot & Bees egg features gold leaf bees busily working to patch up that missing section of the bee hive (egg).
With a last name like von Schweetz – you know Wreck It Ralph's Vanellope has to get in on some Easter candy action!

Vanellope von Schweetz' car looks good enough to eat!
Turning a classic Mr PotatoHead into an Easter egg isn't that far of a stretch – they share a very similar shape... but getting rolled fondant to look this smooth is a real art.

Ahhh... this classic Mr PotatoHead looks as smooth as the plastic toy itself. It can't be easy getting rolled fondant this smooth. We also really like the MR.P. blocks that he's leaning on. I can't be sure – but I think that's another hidden Mickey on the birdhouse!
No, that's not a real Cockroach on top of EVE's head – it's Hal from the movie Wall•E – he's a tough little bug!

Hal is Wall•e's pet cockroach and it looks like this egg shaped version of EVE has found evidence of life!
This nod to Playhouse Disney makes use of two and one-half egg shapes! Here again, I really like that so many of these eggs have a classic, fun-loving Disney vibe. Even the newer Wall-E and Up themed eggs to the left and right seem to match in a fun, almost clay-like design style.

It's great seeing Playhouse Disney represented in egg form. I'm not sure if that main egg counts as a hidden Mickey though... it's too big to be hidden!
Even this 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea egg doesn't stray too far from that basic egg shape. The wood grain detailing on the outside of the egg is amazing – and so is the ocean scene... painted on the inside of the egg!

The scene inside the 20,000 Leagues Egg is just as impressive as the octopus! There also happens to be a golden hidden Mickey on the wood grained exterior of the Easter egg.
While you're at the Contemporary – strolling around a little might reveal some more Easter decor here and there. There's a small counter-sized confectionary stand that's inside the Bay View Gifts and Fashion Shop on the fourth floor that was showing off this candy Easter Egg in the store's display case!

We found this egg in the BVG Shop on the fourth floor of the Contemporary Resort.
Actually – if you're not into the designer cookies that they're offering over at the Contempo Café... you might want to check out the goodies here in the un-named confectionary case at B•V•G (Bay View Gifts). While they don't really offer the same number of gourmet cupcakes that the Contempo Café used to a few years ago – the one or two cupcakes that they do have — are usually decorated and/or flavored with cues from the season or holiday period that we're in. You might be able to find a pastel coconut cupcake here after all!
Discovering all of these artsy eggs in a safe, air-conditioned, stroll around environment – and getting a bite to eat at any of the nearby restaurants is what makes seeing the annual
Easter Eggs Display at the Contemporary Resort one of the reasons
Why We Love This Place.
