I love going to the Disney Resort Food Courts at off-peak times. Everyone is more relaxed, it's quieter, and the food is usually quite good. So the other night, we stopped by Everything Pop at Disney's Pop Century Resort (at around 10pm), and I had the chance to try a fabulous (new to me) dessert from the bakery.

It's somewhat of a side note on the menu board, and it doesn't even get it's own picture on the giant "video loop of food" sign above the bakery, but this little beauty may just be my favorite new ice-cream based dessert at Disney!

The Pecan Tart à la mode doesn't look like much in the display case. It's just an unassuming little round of pecan pie. After you order it though, they take one of these pies and toss it into a stone based, open flame, pizza oven to give it a nice, all around warmth. You then get your choice of ice cream (there's four or five common flavors to choose from). Naturally I was going for pecan overload so I selected the Butter Pecan Ice Cream.

After the Pecan Pie Tart had three or four minutes in the oven, they took it out and topped it with a giant scoop (that's really about the size of two scoops) of Butter Pecan Ice Cream, and topped it off with drizzles of Caramel Sauce.

If chocolate and super sweet desserts is your thing, there are better selections out there, but this was exactly what I was looking for that evening. A good, hearty dessert that actually wasn't too sweet. The tart crust wasn't too thick or doughy, it was crisp and light (and hot obviously). The pecans were all fresh and they really fill that tart. It's not just a thin layer of pecans with a bunch of gooey pie filling under it. The cold butter pecan ice cream paired with the earthiness of the pie and provided a bit of sweetness as it oozed and melted over the hot tart. The caramel sauce, is where you really picked up a sweet note, and they put just the right amount on there.

It really was an amazing dessert that could easily have been served at a higher-end table service restaurant. This was not a small "oh look how dainty and lovely little desserts". It's a real-sized portion of pecan goodness.

I can't say how Everything Pop fares during peak dining high-volume times, but at 10pm... the environment was quite nice. The location was far from empty, it just wasn't bursting at the seams with guests. The dining areas were all clean, the cast members I encountered were happy, personable and informative. At $5.99 (May, 2015), it's not an inexpensive dessert, but it totally delivers on portion size and flavor at a restaurant level that's one notch higher than what you'd expect from a food court.
