The one place you can count on to get a great quick-snack at Epcot is Sunshine Seasons. Especially if you don't know what you want.

Savory items from the Oak Grilling station, more healthful salads and sandwiches, even Asian dishes like a Spicy Shrimp Stir-Fry or the Vegan Korma with Jasmine Rice… it's fun just strolling by the various cooking stations trying to sneak a peak at what the various options look like.

Sometimes though, all you want is dessert… and fortunately, Sunshine Seasons has a dessert station just for those times! On a recent visit, I stopped in at dessert time (which is anytime you want) and decided to go with a long-standing item on the menu… the Chocolate Mousse Cake.

The side-photo of this one tells you a lot about the dessert. There's two large layers of chocolate mousse and two layers of chocolate cake topped with a thin layer of chocolate ganache (or possibly a chilled glaze, depending on how specific you want to get). That little stick poking out of the top of the cake is actually a tube of stripped white and dark chocolate (it's creamy, but like most decorative chocolate, devoid of any cocoa complexity or flavor).

It's been on the menu for a long time because it's a great dessert item. The mousse is what I would call semi-dark… it's not "bitter", it's semi-sweet, but not to the point where it's milk chocolate. The cake does stay fairly moist in there, but the real star in this one is the dense, creamy chocolate mousse. At $4.99 (circa Fall 2016) it is one of the more expensive dessert items at Sunshine Seasons, but lives up to it's price tag, relatively speaking.
